Sink Cave
Access The sink is in a large doline in a dry valley some 2400 metres North East of the Llygad Llwchwr resurgence and is best approached from the minor road from Ammanford to Capel Gwynfe and walking due East for about 500 metres across the open moor from the point SN 6822 1905 on the road. There are no access restrictions.
Description Dig near to cliff in large depression which drains the peat bog. Present dig is East of the big rift that was originally dug. The doline is 26 metres across and about 6 metres deep. A small stream which is very active during wet weather sinks through the boulders at the base of a cliff on the Western side of the doline. Hereford Caving Club have dug at this point during 1966 and 1971 and gained access to a small passage amongst loose boulders for about 10 metres length and 5 to 6 metres depth. SWCC members dug again in 1997 but abandoned the digging as the way on was lost and it turned into a mining operation.
History Hereford CC 1966, SWCC 1988, SWCC 1997
Hydrology The water is believed to emerge at Llygad Llwchwr resurgence. Water tracing by chemical methods Must Not Be Used, as this is a public water supply. Tests
